When a Newa started insulting a Newar

Some Newars feel that they are Newa, and should be called Newa. Non-Newars have corrupted and disparaged the name Newa and called it Newar. In the same way, they have corrupted and called it Nyar. In this context, one Newar even went so far as to say, “Woe to the Newars who insult the Newa community by calling themselves Newar. We are Newa. The word that the Khayanchas use to disparage is Newar Nyar.”

It is not necessary that all the languages in the world that have disappeared from usage have the same nature. The nature of a language does not always remain the same. It is changeable. The Nepali language of the Newars is no exception to this. If we could keep this much in mind, there would be no difference between Newa and Newar.

Just as Newa is called Newa, shop is called Pas. Similarly, window is called Jhya, Lhat is called Lha, Kapal is called Kapa, etc. Here, the bisarg sign is used. This use has only started recently. The question or controversy about whether to use it or not is in its place. I am in favor of using the bisarg sign. If there is an objection to bisarg, then some other sign should be used instead. Otherwise, it will confuse the writing tradition. This sign indicates that even if the word is used in conversation, it is not the full word, but one letter is hidden. For example, the bisarg sign in the word pasah means that the letter l is hidden and its full word is pasal. Other words are also similar. Nepali is a short language, but even though it looks long in conversation, the short one is being used.

Let's take the use of the word pasah as an example. When asking "gan du?" in the sense of where the goods are, you should say "saman pasalay du". Similarly, when asking "gan nam hayagu?" in the sense of where the goods were brought, you should say "pasalam hayagu". According to the grammar, as the third inflection, "पसलं" is used with a capital letter above the "ल" of the word "पसलं" and as the seventh inflection, "य्" is used after the "ल" of the word "पसलं". After removing the two symbols "य्" with a capital letter and "हलं" used as inflections, what remains is पसलं, not पसलं. This order becomes जयालं and जयालयालयालं, after removing the symbol, जयाल remains. If the remaining word "जयालं" is the original word of Nepali, then in the course of conversation it is shortened to "जयाल", and in the course of usage, जयालं is used.

'नेवाह' is also not a complete word. Its full form is 'नेवाल'. There is no difference between 'ल' and 'र'. Therefore, it is also 'नेवार'. नेवाह, नेवार, and नेवार are only three forms of the same word. To clarify this better, the word "नेपाल" can be taken as an example. The Newars call Nepal only 'न As in the words from the shop and in the shop, Nepal is referred to as "Nepalam" and "Nepalay". If the capital letter and the hyphen are removed, Nepal remains. That is, "Nepal" is the complete word. Saying "Nepa" and saying "Nepal" are the same. Some Newars are confused between "Newa" and "Newar". Just as there is no difference between "la" and "ra", similarly there is no difference between "pa" and "va", that is, there is no difference between "Newal" and "Newar", there is no difference between "Newar" and "Nepal". The word Nepal does not only refer to a geographical area, but also refers to a community of people, just like Nepali. In ancient inscriptions, "Swasti Naipalbhyah" is used to wish for the prosperity of Nepalis. Those Nepalis are Newars, in today's language, Newa.

According to the interpretation of ‘Newah’, who insists that Newar should be called Newah, calling Newar an insult to the Newah community is just an unjustified sense of inferiority. According to the same commentator, non-Newahs who call themselves Newar are Khayanchas. The correct spelling of the word Khayancha is ‘Khaycha’. When the Khash or Khas community is Newarized and spoken or written, it becomes ‘Khay’ (the full word for Khay is Khas or Khash. The letter is hidden in this usage too). The use of ‘Cha’ is very strange, ‘Cha’ is used when speaking disdainfully or when speaking with great love and affection, if the intention and context are not understood, the opposite can also happen. Here, it is used in the course of expressing anger by saying that someone is despised. But it should be understood that Newar does not mean that someone is despised, but that Newah and Newar are the same.
